Contract 2D Character Animator

We are looking for an experienced Contract 2D Character Animator to join us as an Actual Nerd. You will breathe life into our characters and environments. The Contract 2D Character Animator will collaborate with internal teams in the conceptualization and completion of animations from start to finish. And, hopefully we can play some games together on the side. 

 

All positions at Actual Nerds are subject to onboarding and working virtually/remotely.

Estimated Duration: 3-6 Months depending on scope of work.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize and communicate ideas for new animations to internal teams for discussion and review

  • Take a fully realized concept or simple thumbnail and translate it into a finished animation

  • Meet the quality bar established by the Art Director

  • Incorporate a basic understanding of character design fundamentals, gameplay functionality, and other important technical restrictions into asset creation

 

Qualifications:

  • Online portfolio is required

  • Has shipped 1 game

  • Proficient skills in Spine 2D

  • Dedicated interest and ability to create animations for games

  • A well-rounded understanding of human and animal anatomy, form, shape, structure, and silhouette

  • Ability to take feedback

  • Highly collaborative and able to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment

  • Strong technical knowledge and ability to learn new tools

 

Nice to have:​

  • Combat animation experience

  • Experience with Game Maker Studio 2 

  • Experience creating hand-drawn effects or building particle effects
